What's Your Definition of Success?

What I Wish I Did at 18

What’s your definition of success?

Got it?

Do you think in order to achieve that definition of success, in today’s world, you’d need to go to college?

If your answer is no - do you think it’d be most optimal to go to college, just not necessary? Or would it not be worth it at all?

If I snapped my fingers and went back to being 18 years old… would I go to college again?

Yes, I would. But I would have done most things very differently. Here are a few:

  1. Instead of graduating with degrees that are mostly useless outside of their fields, I’d major in something that is transferable to almost every field in existence.

  2. Instead of spending every waking hour outside of class in the library studying, I’d focus on the 80/20 rule and spend the rest of my time growing an online brand and business.

  3. Instead of secluding myself for the purpose of succeeding in the moment (small study groups, solo library sessions, etc.), I’d put way more effort into networking with students, alumni, and faculty to maximize my immediately-after-graduation opportunities.

Long story short - my goal would be to optimize my baseline income, then pursue complete financial and time freedom.

How?

Step 1: Get a degree in Computer Science while simultaneously networking and building up a digital presence

Step 2: Secure a Software Engineer position at a big-tech company (Apple, Amazon, Meta, etc.) - this is pretty straight forward if you have the right experience in college and know how to prepare.

Step 3: While at that position, build up a scalable, entirely digital business to a point that surpasses the Software Engineering income

Step 4: Quit the tech job, go full into the business, live with freedom.

But all of that is written from a hindsight is 20/20 perspective. Knowing what I know now, what would I do if I could go back.

Many of you reading this might not be at this stage in your life either, so why is it applicable?

Go back the goal section I laid out above: “Long story short - my goal would be to optimize my baseline income, then pursue complete financial and time freedom.”

Whatever your definition of freedom is, it has to be your number one priority. Then, you have to be smart about how you get there. Give yourself a baseline, a point you can never and will never fall below. Then, when all your ducks are in a row - go all in.

I want to know where you’re at in your journey. If you’ve made it this far, hit “reply” and tell me what your definition of success is and where you are in your journey. Even in just a few words. Let’s connect.
